Every portrait session has its unique challenges, but there’s something extra special about photographing someone you love. So when my daughter asked me to take her author photo for her upcoming third book—due out this time next year—I couldn’t have been more honored.
This session came with a new technical hurdle for me: glasses. My daughter’s glasses, while part of her personality, brought unexpected challenges like glare, reflections, and shadows that impacted her lenses depending on the angle. I experimented with various setups, tweaking the lighting and asking her to tilt her head just so to avoid the dreaded glare while keeping her pose natural and relaxed. It was a balancing act that pushed my skills and creativity.
In the end, we found a solution. The resulting portraits not only avoided technical issues but also captured the intelligent, creative spirit that makes my daughter who she is.
To know that my photo will grace the cover of her book—a testament to her hard work and talent—is a joy to me. It’s a full-circle moment: my craft supporting her dreams.
